  Background
Forestry Society of Kenya (www.forestrysocietyofkenya.orgis a professional association of foresters in Kenya. The main purpose of The Society is to provide a forum for professional foresters to contribute to professional forest management and conservation practices as well as safeguard forestry practice standards by among foresters.
The Society appreciates the enormous role that the constitution has bestowed on Counties in steering sustainable forest management. The current constitutional requirement of attaining ten per cent tree cover in Kenya demands the highest level of professional competency of foresters working for the county Government if the aspirations and desires of the Kenyan people in maximizing the returns of sustainable forest management in our country are to be realized.
FSK notes the need   for environmental officers currently recruited by County Governments to possess basic knowledge of forestry that can equip them with skills as well as expose them to current methods, tools and latest techniques available so as to realize the minimum 10% forest/tree cover envisaged by our constitution for the country.
The society is ready to take the leading role in building of County Government forest practitioners as well as selected interest groups whose leadership in forestry is recognized by the respective county governments as leading to sustainable tree/forest management for poverty alleviation and environmental conservation.
