"we do not need to be called upon when forests are
degraded, but we must make sure our forests are protected."
the patron noted three important points
1. Issue of professional forestry
accreditation: - as
an example he explained that the American association of foresters’ runs a
certified forest program, the accreditation program helps improves the members’
knowledge and information; he noted that it was necessary that accreditation be
included in the coming professional bill.
2. Professional standards: - he noted that it is necessary as
the society to maintain professional standards at all times. Professionalism
does not necessarily depend on employment, the
society should be the base which will strengthen the members, it must
have a very key role in decision making, be strong in policy, and should be
ready to resist to bend rules, and be the main consultant with regards to
forestry in the county
3.
Sustainability of the society: - he was concerned that the
membership fee is a good start but it is not sufficient to sustain a society, and we must work together to create a
strong base on which the society can be
sustained, for us to be an effective society
The CPD is the fisrt step to realise these comments. We need to push for the enactment of our bill, devlop our own programmes/seminars/conferences where we charge participation fees, and strenthen both the Secretariat and Technican/Scientific committee so that we keep the socirty vibrant.
ReplyDeletei will be sharing the updated CPD document to our life members to so that they can also add their inputs to it
